The Imitation of Christ

Mark 14:36

“Abba Father, everything is  possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

Luke 22:42-44

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from Heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Hebrews 5:5

So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high pries. But God said to him,

“You are my Son; today I have become your Father.

Obedience And Subjection

It is a great thing to live in obedience, to be under a superior, and not to be our own judges.    It is much safer to obey than to govern.

Many live under obedience out of necessity rather than out of love. Those who do are discontented and easily distressed. They will never obtain peace of mind until they willingly and heartily put themselves under obedience for the love of God.

Go wherever you want to, you will find no peace of mind except in humble obedience to the rule of a superior. Imagining that a change of places will bring happiness has deceived  many.

It is a truth that everyone of us is willing to do that which pleases us the most, and we are most likely to esteem those who are agree with us;

But if God is among us, we must sometimes give up our own opinion for the sake of peace.

Who among us is wise enough to fully understand all things?

Do not, therefor, be too confident in your own opinion, but be willing to listen to the advice of others.

If what you think is good and yet put it aside for God and follow the opinion of another, it will be beneficial to you.

I have often heard that it is safer to listen and accept counsel than it is to give it.

It may also happen that even though one’s opinion may be good, refusal to yield to others when reason or a special cause requires it is a sign of pride and stubbornness.
